Ontological Categories in Collaborative Learning, the Solution of Mathematical Cases

Abstract
This article presents the results of a research project which has as objective identifying the differences in the collaborative learning for student groups which solve mathematical problems oriented to reasoning, using two different technological means: a reasoning system that implements ontological categories and an online forum. For this research a quasi-experimental design of non-equivalent groups without pre-test was used, involving 60 students of the Math-1 course of the first semester of engineering. From this research it was found that there is significant differences between the features of collaborative learning developed by the students that use ontological categories and those that use the forums for solving the mathematical problems oriented towards reasoning, this results in a better performance of the students that used the system of ontological categories.
