Technical note: Growth of the types of seedlings of plantain (Musa AAB) in nursery stage, Maracaibo municipality, Zulia state

The aim of this research was to evaluate the growth of different plantain offspring (Musa AAB) on greenhouse conditions. The research was carried out at the Greenhouse of the Agronomy Faculty, Universidad del Zulia, Maracaibo municipality, Zulia state. The treatments were the types of offspring: "Espada", "Orejn" and "Reinita". A completelyy block randomized was used with four blocks and five experimental units by treatment on each block. The methodology of repeated means in the time was used for analyzing the data collected, adjusting the growing variables to a quadratic polynomial model and using the statistical SAS. The results showed that the offspring "Espada" had a higher sprouting percentage compared to those of "Reinita" and "Orejon". Regarding the growth of different offspring of plantain, "Espada" type had higher length of the plant and thickness of the pseudo-stem, compared to "Reinita" and "Orejn". None significant differences were found in relation to the number of leaves among the types of offspring evaluated. The "Espada" type reached in fewer days the requirements to be transplanted to the field. It was concluded that the "Espada" type had a more vigorous development; thus, its propagation is recommendable.
