Preparation of Zn-Doped Titanium Dioxide and the Photocatalytic Degradation for Methylene Blue

The Zn-doped titanium dioxide samples were prepared through a sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was employed to characterize the crystal structure of specific products and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer was used to investigate the photocatalytic properties of nano titanium dioxide cols. Results indicate that the synthesized nano titanium dioxide samples are anatase crystals, revealing that a small amount of zinc ions doping does not change the crystal structure of nano titanium dioxide. When the doping amount of Zinc reaches 1.2 wt% of tetrabutyl titanate (TBT), the light response range of titanium dioxide sol expands to 420 nm, with the redshift of nearly 40 nm compared to the non-doped sample. And the degradation of 10 mg/L methylene blue solution, reaches 97% and 79% under ultraviolet light and natural light after 240 min, respectively.
