Abstract
Investigations using neurobiological methods are of growing impact in the psychiatric assessment of legal issues. In addition to the requirements of an organic clarification for a proper diagnosis of psychiatric disorders, current neuroscience methods open new perspectives. In the following article, new empirical methods are illuminated, as is their potential for answering forensically relevant questions. Their usefulness for the forensic psychiatric expert and for the courts is critically discussed.
