Abstract
Large Oil tanks are increasingly constructed on coastal soft foundations and the foundation settlement will induce deformation and stress in the tank. Precast High Strength Square Concrete Piles (PHSSC piles) has been widely used in the foundation design on deep soft soil areas. In this paper, PHSSC pile group models constituted of 4 piles (2x2) and 9 piles (3x3) with 4 different kinds of pile length were built by FLAC3D software to examine and study the parameters affecting the settlement behaviors of the foundation. The models of pile groups with pile length of 20m, 25m, 30m and 35m were embedded in soft soil areas and subjected to one-time loading and graded loading respectively. Analysis of the effect of pile length and pile numbers in pile groups was shown. Research results may provide theoretical support and numerical verification for the engineering practice.
