Abstract
Acrylic acid reacted with ethylene diamine to give amide-imine oligomer. This oligomer was grafted to polystyrene-butadiene rubber. The oligomer structure was elucidated using FT-IR, H-1-NMR, C-13-NMR and mass spectroscopy. The grafted rubber and 10 part per hundred parts of rubber (phr) polypropylene fibers were added to styrene butadiene rubber. It was noticed that upon addition of the grafted rubber to this composite, the tensile strength improved. The retained values of the tensile strength throughout the thermal aging period showed that the addition of 20 phr of the grafted rubber to the composite improves thermal aging behavior.
