THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION AND THE JURORS OF VALENCIA (1662). HISTORICAL RESEARCH, TECHNICAL ANALYSIS AND CONSERVATION

The project presented here is currently conducting historical and technical research on the canvas 'The Immaculate Conception and the Jurors of Valencia' (Ayuntamiento de Valencia, inv. MC/706), painted by Jeronimo Jacinto de Espinosa for the City Council of Valencia in 1662. Thanks to funding awarded by the Generalitat Valenciana, archival, bibliographical and technical research is being conducted to gain a better understanding of Espinosa's work and its state of conservation. Our goal is to implement a project for the restoration and conservation of the picture and to improve its museographic display. The research team working on the project ensures a multidisciplinary approach through the inclusion of professionals from the Universitat Jaume I, the Universitat de Valencia, the Instituto Valenciano de Conservacion, Restauracion e Investigacion, and the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia.
