Audit of epilepsy healthcare provision in a large UK category B prison

•Prisoners with epilepsy have complex demographics which could affect epilepsy care.•Overall prevalence of epilepsy and adult onset epilepsy was higher than expected.•Low rates of seizure freedom, and the potential for treatment optimisation warrant further action.•Emergency care plans and rescue medication training are a priority.•Productive collaboration can be built across NHS and Prison healthcare settings.
