DETERMINATION OF POLYPHENOLS IN TOBACCO, TOBACCO BLENDS, TOBACCO SMOKE AND BUTTS OF DIFFERENT CIGARETTE BRANDS

The present study reports the content of polyphenols in tobacco blends, tobacco smoke and cigarette buts of different cigarette brands. Two varieties Oriental tobaccos, two types of tobacco blend cigarettes (Virginia and American blends) and four brands by American blend cigarettes with various filter ventilation were used for analysis. The largest amount of polyphenols was detected in Oriental tobacco cigarettes followed by Virginia and American blend cigarettes. There were no statistical differences between the polyphenol content in brands of American blend cigarettes. An inverse relationship between filter ventilation and flavonoids in tobacco smoke was established. A significant increase in the amount of flavonoids in the tobacco smoke of Oriental tobaccos cigarette compared to the blended cigarettes was observed. The content of flavonoids in filtered cigarettes was smaller than in unfiltered cigarettes.
