EFFECT OF RECTANGULAR SURFACE TEXTURE ON TRIBOLOGY PROPERTIES OF BERYLLIUM BRONZE/20CrNiMo UNDER DIFFERENT LOADS

Rectangular surface texture is processed on the disc surface with different area ratio lambda (5, 10, 15%) and different arrangement (long rectangle, uniform short rectangular and stagger short rectangular) via precise engraving technology. The friction coefficient of the flat contact area between beryllium bronze and 20CrNiMo, which is formed by the pin-disk model, under different load ranged from 1.3 to 18.2 MPa were tested. The results showed that surface texture can reduce friction coefficient significantly under low loads, the maximum and minimum reduce ratio is 60 and 36%, respectively, and the antifriction effect of short rectangular is better than that of long rectangular. When the load is high, the long rectangular shall increase the friction coefficient about 17%, while the short rectangular have little effect on the friction coefficient. The stagger short rectangular can reduce friction more effective than uniform style, but the difference gets smaller with the load getting higher.
