摘要
BACKGROUND: Few case reports are available regarding spinal tumors in the setting of pregnancy. The association of schwannoma with maternal comorbidities such as preeclampsia and maternal mortality is not clear. CASE: A 30-year-old woman, gravida 1 para 0, at 34+1 weeks' gestation was admitted to labor and delivery with preeclampsia with severe features. Several days after delivery she was diagnosed with an 11-cm spinal mass. Biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of a schwannoma. Several days after biopsy she suffered a sudden right middle cerebral artery ischemic stroke. She died on postpartum day 24. CONCLUSION: Pregnancy-related spinal tumors may be associated with multiple other comorbidities such as hypertension and stroke. Hormonal influences of pregnancy may accelerate spinal tumor growth.
