Abstract
Purworejo regency was the only district in Central Java, which has areas of Middle Case Incidence (MCI) of malaria. The objectives of the descriptive study were to know the type and stage of malaria parasites, occurrence of indigenous transmission and effect of Long Lasting Insecticides Nets (LLIN) on malaria cases in Sendangsari and Kalitapas village, from May to October 2015. Blood samples of malaria patients were examined before and after using the LLIN and the blood samples were tested by conventional methods of blood thick and thin smear of blood fingertip. The results showed that slide positivity rate, was 7.69% before using insecticide mosquito nets and 1.5% after using insecticide mosquito nets and the stage of malaria parasite was gametocytes in children aged 2-4 years old. Based on parasite stage in young patient, a local transmission had occurred. Although the number of cases before and after usage of LLIN was declined, but it could be influenced by other vector control instead of LLIN, which were distributed by Purworejo District Health Service.
