Investigation on the High Temperature Mechanical Behavior of AH36 Slab

High temperature tensile testing has been carried out on Gleeble 3500 thermal simulator to investigate the high temperature mechanical behavior of AH36 during continuous casting process with the range of temperatures (873-1723 K). The results showed that the value of tensile strength decreases with the increase of temperature, and the zero strength temperature (ZST) was found to be 1758 K. Two ranges of brittleness temperature have been obtained: the No. I brittleness temperature range of AH36 is from 1548 K to solidification temperature; the No. III brittleness temperature range of AH36 is 923-1223 K. However, the reduction of area is higher than 65% in the range of temperatures from 1223 to 1548 K. The temperature of 1733 K was taken as the zero ductility temperature (ZDT). In addition, the relationship between the strain hardening index (p) and temperature with a strain rate of 10-2 s-1 was obtained.
