Abstract
Essential for energy saving requirements has boosted many alternating approach for efficient melting of metals compare to conventional one. Metal melting using microwave energy is one method which is cost effective, environment safe and rapid compare to conventional metal material melting processes. In the current work, a feasibility study has been carried out for standard size of metallic material samples in domestic microwave oven. The non-ferrous bulk metallic materials such as lead was used as applicant materials. A 1000-W modified domestic microwave oven, operating at 2.45 GHz is used for the study. The result shows that it's feasible to melt lead material in microwave oven with proper insulating casket. The surface temperature of the charge was monitored using a non-contact type of temperature measurement gun after the process It is found that melting of bulk lead metallic material using microwave energy seems much faster, significantly reduce energy consumption and environment safe process. Experimental study shows that compared to conventional melting using muffle furnace, microwave melting study shows faster and more energy efficient results. Thus it justifies the new method for energy and time efficient methodology for metal melting.
