The iodoaniline malonamide dimer, prepared by double acylation of iodoaniline failed to yield the stilbene dimer by the Heck protocol. By contrast formation of the amino stilbene by a modified Heck procedure followed by double acylation provided in good yield. [GRAPHICS] .
