Effect of Overexpression UdhA on the Production of Pyruvate in the E.coli HBUT-P2

Overexpressing the Soluble Pyridine NucleotideTranshydrogenase (udhA) gene from E. coli was performed to address the problem of redox imbalance. The fermentation time was shortened from 48 h to 36 h when udhA gene expression was induced with IPTG at mid-exponential phase (8 h), meanwhile, pyruvate productivity was increased to 1.21 g.L-1.h-1. Glucose consumption was increased by 77.38%. Overexpression of soluble pyridine nucleotide transhydrogenase can efficiently enhance pyruvate productivity and glucose consumption in E. coli.
