Abstract
In the paper, we study the composition, structure, and mechanical properties of pilot specimens made of TiNi-TiB2 metal-ceramic composite by the direct laser deposition method. The metal composite is modeled, and its mechanical response to loading is numerically studied at the macro- and mesolevels. The metal-ceramic composite with the composition and structure as close as possible to the produced material is modeled on the basis of the known structure, mechanical and physical properties of the initial components TiNi and TiB2. Special features of deformation and fracture of metal-ceramic specimens are numerically studied in varying the content (40-60%) of reinforcing particles in the metal matrix. It is shown that, even at 1% of the total compressional strain, localized shear bands start to form in the metal matrix.
