Isothermal and Auto-Seeded Polythermal Preferential Crystallisation in the Mandelic Acid System

The resolution of mandelic acid is carried out via preferential crystallisation in a batch mode. Aim of this work is the development of an auto-seeded polythermal preferential crystallisation process for mandelic acid and the comparison of the results with "classical" isothermal preferential crystallisation experiments, performed in previous work. The auto-seeded polythermal process is found to be more efficient than the "classical" seeded isothermal one in terms of product mass, productivity and yield.
