Abstract
Regenerable alfalfa line was transformed with a poplar gene, encoding for a key enzyme (CCoAOMT), involved in lignin biosynthesis. In the present study we describe the results from lignin quantitative analyses of the selected transgenic plants, and preliminary data from afield trial with the progeny of the lines exhibited reduced lignin content and better digestibility.
