Outcomes of 16,436 patients requiring isolated aortic valve surgery: A statewide cohort study

•Epidemiology and patient's outcomes following aortic valve (AV) surgery are unclear in Australia.•Present study showed progressive increases in AV surgery case volumes over 17 years.•Bioprosthetic AV replacement (AVR) increased significantly whereas mechanical AVR decreased.•Significant improvements in adjusted 30-day and 1-year survival were observed.•Heart failure and sepsis were the most common causes of mortality following AV surgery.
