Distal paravertebral nerve block in sheep undergoing laparohysterotomy: comparing the use of 1% and 2% lignocaine hydrochloride

•Lignocaine hydrochloride 2% is the most popular local anesthetic in veterinary practice•The toxic dose in sheep being lower than cattle; larger volume needed for distal paravertebral block may always not be safe.•Use of 1% lignocaine was therefore compared with 2% in sheep undergoing Caesarian section.•Satisfactory flank anesthesia was achieved using both 2% and 1% lignocaine hydrochloride.
