Corrosion behavior of a dynamically deformed Al-Mg alloy

•The influence of dynamic deformation on the electrochemical behavior of Al–Mg alloy was investigated.•A large variation in the corrosion behavior was observed from the impact end to the undeformed end, showing a strong dependence on the local strain gradient and microstructure variation due to dynamic deformation.•A higher probability of localized corrosion was observed near fragmented cathodic particles.
