Abstract
•Potential forestry residue production shown an increasing trend from 2007 to 2016.•The annual average potential forestry residue was 254.69 Mt from 2014 to 2016.•Guangxi, Yunnan, Fujian had highest potential forestry residue of 17.88 – 32.66 Mt.•Collectable residue was 72.0 ± 7.4 Mt. Its electricity potential was130.77±13.38 TWh.
