Large-scale influence maximization via maximal covering location

•Influence maximization is modeled as stochastic maximal covering location.•We propose a reformulation based on Benders decomposition.•We show relations between Benders optimality cuts and submodular cuts.•Our branch-and-cut algorithms include efficient preprocessing and cut separation.•We significantly outperform the state-of-the-art on large-scale social networks.
