摘要
•Modern groundwater from Southern Quebec contain up to 18% of mantle helium.•This helium could be a fossil record of the Cretaceous Monteregian Hills (MH).•Mantle helium is diluted with time by radiogenic 4He before released in water.•Monte Carlo simulations of a “magma aging” model was done to estimate initial 3He/4He.•Initial 3He/4He of 21–33 × the atmospheric ratio suggests that MH resulted from a hotspot source.
