Abstract
•Afterburning mainly occurs in mixed layer between exhaust gas and air.•There is a slightly change of temperature distribution in the near-field region between frozen and reaction flow.•The raise of temperature in reacting plume increased with the increase in distance from nozzle exit, whereas decreased with the rise in flight height.
