Use of monitored anesthesia care (MAC) or general anesthesia (GA) for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is largely based on the anesthesiologist’s discretion. Previous studies have shown conflicting results as to safety of MAC for ERCP.
