Investigation of the stability in Pickering emulsions preparation with commercial cosmetic ingredients

•Monodisperse silica nanoparticles were modified with gradient hydrophobicity.•Emulsion type and stability were altered by the hydrophobicity of model silica or commercial silica.•Cosmetic ingredients were involved in the stabilization of Pickering emulsions.•Emulsion preparation with the biocompatible oils and commercial silica particles follows the rule derived from model study.
