Digital light processing 3D printing of ceramic shell for precision casting

•DLP 3D printing method was firstly developed to fabricate ceramic shells for precision casting of complex components.•The suspension for fabricating the shell had a shear-thinning rheological property that was suitable for DLP 3D printing.•A stainless steel impeller with four curved blades was successfully casted by using the DLP ceramic shell.
