Podophyllotoxin profiles combined with SRAP molecular markers in Juniperus rigida: A promising alternative source of podophyllotoxin

•Podophyllotoxin contents were linked to SRAP markers for breeding research of J. rigida.•YJ and XDC owned the rich-podophyllotoxin; CBS and LYM had higher genetic diversity.•Podophyllotoxin contents in Loess Plateau were higher than that in northeast of China.•Chemotypes had significantly positive correlations with genotypes.•This is the first stage to develop new genotye with a high content of PPT in J. rigida.
