Abstract
•X-ray transition radiation (TR) from radiators of various periods is studied.•Both TR suppression and small enhancement in the short-period radiator was observed.•Conditions under which the above TR enhancement is much larger are derived.•Practical value of such an effect is outlined.•Theory for an arbitrary beam shape and the detector size is developed.
