Analysis of thermal response of new diagnostic probe in TCV

•Thermal response of the new probe head during triple plunge into the TCV tokamak has been analysed numerically.•The applied heat load corresponds to the heat flux distribution in the Scrape-Off-Layer.•Thermal resistance between shroud cap and the shroud cylinder determines the probe’s thermal behaviour.•The predicted temperatures show that the critical values are not exceeded in any of the probe components.•The results demonstrated suitability of the probe’s design for the measurements in TCV.
