Abstract
Early life stress is thought to alter developing cognitive brain networks that are sensitive to stress, particularly hippocampal circuitry. Early life trauma is very common in bipolar disorder (BD), and is thought to play a major role in the pathophysiology of BD and it contributes to poor outcomes more broadly. Cognitive deficits are common in BD; however, few studies have examined the association between specific types of childhood trauma and cognition in BD.
