Changing Attitudes Towards Electroconvulsive Therapy: Over-Coming the Stigmatizing Spectre of The Cuckoos Nest

Despite prevailing negative attitudes, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is an effective treatment for major depressive disorder. Few studies have taken an in-depth mixed methods approach to explore attitudes towards ECT, or the changes that occur through experience of treatment. The aim of this study was to compare attitudes of patients and their relatives before and after ECT using quantitative and qualitative methods.
