Optical vortex trajectory of the edge-diffracted single-charged Laguerre-Gaussian beam

•The theory of the vortex behavior during the beam blocking by a half-plane are given.•Two diffraction perturbation are considered: weak and strong.•The parameter responsible for the twist degree of OV trajectory coils is introduced.•A new approach for obstacles localization with OV trajectory theory is put forward.
