•Cu-supported Ag Nanowires (Cu@AgNAs1-5) are prepared under green solution.•Ag loading of Cu@AgNAs1-5 is above 81 mg cm−2.•Cu@AgNAs1-5-Zn battery demonstrates an areal capacity of 36.8 mAh cm−2 at 10 mA cm−2.
