The EU DEMO equatorial outboard limiter — Design and port integration concept

•The DEMO wall protection concept foresees outboard midplane limiters (OMP) for plasma ramp-up to avoid plasma-wall contact and so to avoid charged particles to overheat the first wall.•The pre-conceptual OMP limiters design was studied incl. port integration, remote handling and cooling concept. Based on this, thermal, structural, electromagnetic and neutronic loads were assessed.•The required alignment precision and the mechanism to achieve that, is described, together with the limiter alignment strategy based on proposals for diagnostics to be used.
