The use of a running power-meter for performance analysis in five-a-side football

•The Running power meter shows good inter-device reliability.•Power increased during intermittent running in relation to speed.•Power was recorded for all players competing in a small-sided game of football.•Winning team expressed > relative power output (%Wmax) compared to losing team.•Future work needs to assess the findings in relation to multiple games.
