Abstract
The human endopeptidase EC 3.4.24.15, also known as thimet oligopeptidase 1 (THOP1) is shown to be localized on chromosome 19p13.3 using the human cDNA for THOP1. The cDNA was hybridized against the cosmid contig map of chromosome 19 generated by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The results were confirmed by fluorescent in situ hybridization and Southern and dot blot analyses. This localization shows that the gene for THOP1 is not in the same region as the Apolipoprotein E gene, which is on the q-arm of chromosome 19 at 13.3, and that the potential influence of THOP1 in Alzheimer's disease is not dependent upon this locus.
