•Phytometabolomic analysis of N. nouchali boiled rhizome was performed.•N. nouchali boiled rhizome powder displayed antihyperglycemic activity.•Displayed antioxidant activity, prevented hemoglobin and insulin glycation.•Oxidative stress induced mitochondrial membrane potential disturbances were assuaged.
