Investigation on Chemical Reactions of Li-ion Battery Under Thermal Runaway

Li-ion battery is widely used in power system. As hazardous situations can occur during the life of a Li-ion battery, it is of great importance to better understand its behavior under thermal runaway condition. This paper investigates a set of internal chemical reactions for Li-ion battery. According to the trigger temperature, the occurrence order of chemical reactions is arranged. Subsequently, it is found that different species of gas will release with different chemical reactions. Hence, new thinking is discussed that gas can be regarded as a reference for the safety diagnosis of Li-ion battery.
