The purpose of the present paper is to offer an organized review of the theoretical and experimental arguments that we think exist favouring for the title reaction (at least, when performed in an aprotic medium) a specific reaction mechanism in which bis(thiazolidin-2-ylidene)s are in all cases the actual catalytic species.
