EFFECT OF SULGLYCOTIDE ON THE RELEASE OF PGI2 INTO GASTRIC-JUICE IN HEALTHY-VOLUNTEERS

A new liquid preparation of sulglycotide, a sulfate glycopeptide with gastro-protective properties, has recently been developed. The present study compared the bioequivalence of the new formulation with that of the oral granular preparation in terms of the release of 6-keto prostaglandin F1alpha (PGF1alpha), a stable metabolite of prostaglandin I2, in human gastric juice. Twenty-four healthy volunteers were randomized to receive either the suspension or the granular preparation for 7 days. At the end of treatment, both sulglycotide formulations had significantly increased the release of 6-keto PGF1alpha into gastric juice. These results demonstrate bioequivalence of the two tested formulations and explain in part the therapeutic effect of sulglycotide in peptic disease.
