•The biochemical pathways related to oxylipins were outlined.•Genes encoding oxylipin related enzymes are expressed in the pain-circuit.•Gene expression and oxylipin concentrations were modified by inflammation.•Oxylipin injections evoked thermal nociceptive hypersensitivity in rats.
