Abstract
The objective of this work was to test the effect of several magnesium concentrations in the lipid peroxidation initiated by FeCl3 and ascorbic acid in rat synaptosomal membranes. Aliquots of membranes were incubated at 37degreesC in the presence or absence of either FeCl3, ascorbic acid, and MgCl2. Lipid peroxidation was estimated by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA) and 4-hydroxyalkenals (4-HDA) concentrations in the membrane suspension. Under our experimental conditions, Mg administered in vitro did not have significative effects on lipid peroxidation initiated by FeCl3 and ascorbic acid in synaptosomes.
