摘要
The National Academy of Sciences Prize in Food and Agriculture Sciences is endowed by matching gifts from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research. This $100,000 prize is available to scientists in any field of the food and agricultural sciences who received their PhD in the last 20 years and performed their research at a U.S. institution. The prize is intended to stimulate innovative research in new areas of the food and agricultural sciences. Implementation of this prize implies that the NAS desires to encourage food and agricultural research no matter what the specialty. The prize is expected to energize the scientific community and attract younger scientists to explore new fields important to the production of food, feed, fiber, and fuel essential for meeting the expanding population of the world. Sponsorship by the NAS helps to foster a sense of importance to this highly appreciated prize.
