•Patients develop chromoblastomycosis over a period of more than 10 years, and most will have received antifungals.•The complete duration of treatment received is difficult to ascertain.•Incomplete oral antifungal treatment may modify the clinical presentation of chromoblastomycosis.•Cicatricial lesions are the most common clinical aspect presented by these patients.•Cicatricial lesions are characteristically non-elevated, smooth, and depigmented.
