CASES REPORT OF GASTROINTESTINAL HEMORRHAGE CAUSED BY GLYPHOSATE HERBICIDES

The extensive use of glyphosate herbicide has aroused concern about its safety. From February 2017 to April 2018, we treated two patients with severe gastrointestinal bleeding caused by acute glyphosate herbicide poisoning. One patient underwent a gastroscopy and showed severe corrosive gastritis. After the gastrectomy, the patient still had gastrointestinal bleeding, which was presumably severe intestinal erosion. Another patient suffered from gastrointestinal perforation due to glyphosate poisoning. After gastroduodenal artery embolisation, hematemesis and hematochezia occurred repeatedly. Both patients died of gastrointestinal bleeding. Therefore, we conclude that severe glyphosate herbicide poisoning can lead to severe digestive tract corrosion and even death due to gastrointestinal bleeding.
