Comparative Performance of Cashew Hybrid 'Poornima' with Some Released Cultivars

Hybridisation work carried out between high yielding cultivars 'BLA 139-1' and 'K-30-1' during 1972 and subsequent evaluation of the progenies at the Cashew Research Station, Madakkathara, Kerala resulted in the evolution of the promising cashew hybrid 'Poornima' (H 1593). This hybrid, with upright compact tree habit and intensive branching, has mid-season flowering behaviour. It has desirable nut characters like high nut weight (7.8 g), high shelling percentage (31%) and good export grade (W 210) suitable for industry. It has an annual yield of 14.08 kg/tree/annum. It is moderately susceptible to tea mosquito bug.
