Oncologic outcomes of patients with Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC): A multi-institutional cohort study

•Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a disease of the elderly, with median age at diagnosis of 71 years.•Disease-specific survival (DSS) is much better than overall survival (OS).•Median DSS for stage III disease was 90.8 months compared to 24.1 month median OS.•Patient immunocompromise and disease stage are the strongest predictors of DSS.•Treatment of MCC must be personalized based on patient age and overall health status.
